I would not be able to deal with a basement flooded ankle high in backed up poop due to a clogged sewage pipe, or squeezing myself under someone's kitchen sink only to have a rascally mouse run across my chest as I'm trying to fix the kitchen disposal. Its not glamourous work, and I respect them for that.
I wouldn't WANT to become a plumber (fear of poop), car mechanic, electrician (fear of electrocution), painter (fear of lead paint intoxication). So until I learn how to do some of these small jobs on my own, I'll have to watch as these skilled men/women bill me for a weeks pay for a couple hours worth of work. :)
