1. In MN, you can be convicted of Reckless Driving, Careless Dr, Speed Hazardous (all Misdemeanors) or speeding (petty Misd fine only). There is a max fine for pettys and all misd plus possible jail for misd. This guy got a pretty standard deal (I don't know about ins. since I have a clean record-sorry).
2. SD Gov and Congressman Janklow killed a Minnesotan on a motorcycle because of Jamklow's famous habit of speeding. The federal governent is paying off the family since he was on government business. So you are paying for that and the family will get a lot less than if Janklow weree paying.
3. That stretch of highway is very dangerous-one of the worst and there were about three big accidents there about the time this happened. There are a lot of crossroads and farms and you name it and a lot of traffic.
4. Even the best driver going 200+ MPH (if he was) could never do anything but turn to juice if something unexpected happened. You would not want to be in his way.
5. If you were to put that tropper in his plane and have him time someone going the same exact speed ten times with a watch there would be a large measurement error. A small difference in time would make a big difference in speed. Happy safe motoring!
