This product guide should help.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 26 Dec 2004 17:24:28 In Reply to: OT Wireless Network, Jono, Sun, 26 Dec 2004 14:01:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I also graduated college prior to the development of the PC, but I was able to install a hard-wired LinkSys brand ethernet system in my home 3-1/2 years ago because I found the LinkSys product guide easy to use and a great source of information.
Since then I have helped my sons install wireless systems in both of their homes, a D-Link and Belkin system.
Hopefully the link to "LinkSys Wireless Product Guide" will help explain what pieces are necessary. Basically you will need a wireless router and a Wireless Interface Card/Device for each PC. From my own experience, if you have multiple PC's but only one printer, a Print Sharing Router will be a nice feature. Although double the cost of a regular router, it will allow any of your PC's to send info to the printer through the air waves, you won't need the PC to be directly connected to the printer via a cable.
Oh yeah, pay particular attention to the security features of your router. Unless you want to provide free wireless internet to the entire neighborhood!
