Several reasons...
Why I didn't get a Saab:
I was thinking of getting another Saab (my wife and I have had 5), however, I didn't want to spend too much on a car as I bought another car and I dumped major $$$ in the SPG this summer.
I was interested in a 2000 or newer 9'3SE or another 9'5 Aero, however, they were out of the price range I wanted to be in. I wasn't interested in a 9000, classic 900 or a NG900 as these models are getting old and tend to have relatively high maintenance and repair costs. I looked into leasing a 9-2X, but I was not impressed with the car and for the cost of the lease, I could buy a competent used car.
Why I got the CL Type S:
The irony of my aquisition of the CL is that only 3-4 weeks before I decided to part with the SPG, my wife and I had been at the Acura dealer looking around (I have another Acura) and we looked at a CL and I mentioned to my wife that if/when it came to replace my SPG, I'd like to get a CL Type S. However, when it came time to look for a car, I knew that the CL's would be out of my desired price range, so I looked into leasing a Jetta GLI (again, changed my mind about leasing), buying a used Honda Accord coupe (nice cars, but not very exciting), and then I came across the particular CL-S that I bought, which just happened to be priced very well.
I was intrigued with the idea of getting an Acura as they tend to be quite reliable. Further, I thought it might be nice to have a car that was built in this decade!
In addition, the CL-S is a pretty cool car: 260HP; DVD nav. system; power, leather, sport, memory seats; 6 disc in dash Bose sound system; Homelink; 5 speed auto "tiptronic-type" sequential shift trans; Xenon headlights; 17" rims; sport suspension; etc., etc., etc... Another benefit is that if I want to upgrade the CL, the cost of parts seems to be a fair bit less then the Saab. A cold air intake, for example, is available for about $40 (not just the filter, but a full CAI).
BTW, I had a Saab convertible too. We sold that it this summer. It was nice enough, but my wife is not a convertible person and ours wasn't a turbo, so it was rather sluggish.
