Since the plows always come from the same direction, I deliberately clear a small section of the street directly in front of my drive and extend it towards the direction the plows will arrive from. Conviently, it also happens to be in front of my mail and newspaper box.
As the plow arrives, the blade will empty itself into this cleared section of curb. With little snow in the street at that point, very little additional snow get picked up by the blade to block my drive. Yes, I have a thin layer of snow to move so I get a clear drive, but nothing like I see at other housess. I also need to move snow again from in front of the mail and paper boxes, but it usually isn't that much if I make the "pocket" long enough. Belive me, it is easier to create a pocket in light fluffy snow than to have to move the heavy lumpy stuff the plow deposits!
This also ensures I recieve my mail and newspapers both on-time and dry. My neighbors all used to think I was nuts for doing this. But after enough years of seeing my tiny windrow versus the mountain of heavy lumpy snow blockiing their drives, most do something similar now. Except for the two jerks living across from each other at the end of the street.......
