You're definitely using WEP, not WPA, right? Also, when you say that the card is listed as inactive, have you checked in the hardware profile to make sure the card &/or PCMCIA port is(are) enabled? And for the router, did you change the name of the ssid and are you broadcasting it? When you don't have security enabled, and you are connected through the wireless, can you then see the network in the notebook's wireless network listing? It's been a while since I used Win2K, but in XP you need to configure the network as WEP, WPA, etc. on the laptop, in the properties for that connection. That's where you'd change it to WEP and enter the key, have you actually been able to do that on the laptop?
