I have never done it, but friends of my parents did it regularly as "Snow Birds" (Michiganders who winter in Florida) starting in the 1960's. Anything a Boy Scout or Girl Scout can cook in a foil pouch or Dutch Oven placed in the coals of a campfire, can be placed on the intake manifold.
I seem to remember they would place the food pouch on the engine 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours before meal time, then continue driving to a roadside rest area where they would enjoy a hot meal rather than cold sandwiches.
Sine the IDM has that nice deep recess on top, maybe it would be a good spot to warm food for a roadside meal?
