As a USA based Systems/Electrical Engineer... I've been to Europe many times for both business and pleasure, and I always enjoy it. This is a BROAD generalization, but Americans seem to tend to "live to work" while Europeans tend to "work to live". You'll get paid more in the USA, but you'll work far more, and you will have 5 weeks of vacation (if you're lucky) after 20+ years with a big company. On the other hand, if you work in Europe, you'll get less money, a shorter work week, and much more vacation. You'll be seeing less of your family and friends in the USA, but you may know people over there, too. You'll laugh at Americans who bitch about high taxes. In the end, it's your personal judgment call.
I know we have a few folks from Europe working where I do who love the pay here in the USA. They're young and I think they view it as a fun thing to do for a few years...
I say go for it. If you're young, and you are willing to work through the issues of visas, employment hassles, etc. you'll love it. Even if you do it for a year or so, you'll always look back at it and think of what a wonderful experience you had. Get a car or take advantage of the great rail system and see it all. Drink 1 of each of all the beers from Belgium. Rent a Porsche and redline it on the autobahn. There's more to life than money.
