threads relating to oil, or lubricants. You just touched on a subject that puzzles me: Namely, why they recommend against syn trans fluid.
The manual says that dino, and syn ATF ols have different lubricating properties and premature wear can result on parts. I've used syn ATF in my other vehicles without incident for a long time. A neighbor of mine works in GM Powertrain development as a transmission technician and he heartily recommends syn ATF.
Not knowing otherwise, I changed ATF fluid shortly after purchasing my 9-5 and used Dex III rated Mobil 1 ATF. Since oil remains in the TC, I only replaced about 4 of the original 7 litres in the system. And I've left it there. I don't normally like to disregard a manufacturer mandate, but this one runs counter to my experience.
What's your take on it?
