I used to own a Honda, and it was imperative that only Honda brand ATF was used. It was a non-synthetic, and had a unique friction modifier not found in any other brand of ATF... Using Mobil 1 ATF in Hondas and Acuras is a big no-no. I wanted to use M1 ATF in my Honda, after having good results with it in my '88 9000T. I had written to Redline and they said to use Honda brand!!
And it's not only Honda, but Chrysler and Mitsubishi also use special ATF. Chrysler actually has several different types of ATF, and it's caused lots of trouble in service departments, sometimes with the wrong ATF being used, and transmissions destroyed. (I've read lots of minivan horror stories about this)
But I haven't read anywhere about SAAB using a special formulation ATF??
