For example, you have a Jag XJ6 listed but you are looking for a "fun" car. I guess if you consider sitting in an over-stuffed chair, reading the New Yorker while sipping a glass of brandy fun, then yes an XJ could be fun. But at the same time you list a 944 which most people would traditionally consider a fun car. It's all a bit confusing.

I have to say I'm a bit of a sucker for a Jag but would be terrified to own one. This coming from a person who owns an Alfa, a brand not known for quality, reliability, or any semblance of durability. I love the looks of the Jag but if you are concerned w/ quality I would guess the BMW might be better.

Also, in terms of Saab and their "quality decline", I would have to disagree. The 9-5 is considered one of the most reliable European cars you can buy. The previous gen 9-3 (such as a Viggen) is also fairly reliable. I would guess more so than the cars you list above. Plus the Viggen is a hoot to drive, seats four comfortably, is FWD for the winter, comes in 2 and four door configurations, and is moderately fuel efficient. But enough w/ the obligatory Saab content...

Oh, just had another thought: The Volvo 850 T5-R (please note the 'R', not a regular T5, but a T5-R). I have no idea how well built they are but it sure looks like it could be a blast. I remember loving the rims when this car came out; the car just looked tough. I'm sure others could advise you to whether it's a good car or not.

I would also ask what type of price range you are looking at. And as far as your list is concerned, it might help to have you describe why you listed it and include what you like and don't like about each one. This could help clarify what you are looking for and others can concur or suggest alternatives that you could consider.

please note, I didn't make any references to those blasted Japanese cars!
