engine restart procedure after complete rebuild Posted by Saabu [Email] ![]() ![]() |
just finishing up my rebuild and want to ensure i do everything right in bringing the car back to life in the next day or so.
its an 86 turbo engine, stock except for having 83 900T pistons.
I plan to do the following:
a bit of oil into each cylinder for extra lube. put in cheap set of spark plugs.
Crank engine over(sans fuel pump fuse) to prime turbo for 30 seconds.
Question - can timing be checked at that slow a speed?
bleed coolant system during this process as well.
check engine oil level (dry oil filter in so i expect a drop in level), coolant level, power steering fluid level.
disconnect coil, insert fuel pump fuse and crank til i smell gas from exhaust.
insert fuel pump fuse, put in dry spark plugs and let 'er rip.
once started, run for a minute, shut off to confirm coolant system bled.
then, full warm-up thru fan cycle.
check clutch and gear engagement, power brakes, dashboard/light/etc.
full cool-down and add 1/4 turn to head bolts.
check all coolant hoses for tightness.
Any corrections or suggestions welcome!
