Nitrous systems aren't any harder on the engine than anything else that increases combustion. A 30hp performance mod is a 30hp performance mod. Nitrous is a combination of oxygen and inert nitrogen, the gas delivers a significant ammount of oxygen to the engine and allows more fuel to be added to the mix. Problems will arise from improper nitrous set-ups because most people believe that nitrous oxide is fuel and adds power on it's own. This misinformation leads to lean conditions and extreme combustion temperatures. A 30hp nitrous shot is about the same as adding 12psi of boost, and you'll need extra fuel to use it. A proper nitrous system utilizes a secondary fuel injection system coupled with the nitrous injection, but I would have to wonder if the fuel pump in the N/A cars is capable of enough flow.
