...try http://www.dawesdevices.com. This MBC should work about as well as the Abbott, or pretty much any other controller out there (Hallman, etc). If you want more precision, TurboXS makes a good controller for what, $150? In short, the Abbott is really not necessary, any controller will work.
Anyway, a MBC would most certainly solve your mysterious boost cut off problem. However, you will have to tune down the controller a bit in the winter to prevent boost overshoots due to colder air temperatures.
I ran a unit similar to the Dawes unit (a homemade version, <$15) in my 9000 Aero for a few hours to see what it was like. What you lose is the ECU control over the turbo, therefore no knock protection (always use highest octane gas possible). In addition, there will be no power limitation in first and second gears, so spinning the tires will be easier than ever. However, if you restrain yourself from turning the boost pressure all the way up to fuel cut (like I did), you could probably keep drivability similar to stock, but with faster spoolup. I think this is definately something you should try if that fuel cut problem is really bothering you. Several people here (especially NG900/9-3 owners) have been using MBCs for quite some time with no problems. Try one of these boards and look for posts by Dean.
By the way, when exactly does your fuel cut hit you? I've recently been getting overboost fuel cut very rarely during very aggressive downshifts to 3rd or 2nd. It sounds like your problem is much more frequent. I hope mine's just a Trionic adaptation issue.
