I also respect your opinion on your car. I have thought about dropping a 3.0 V6 saab into my 1977 99 GL and dropping a turbo if it can handle it. My 99 is a NA engine and its perky enought with its bullet proof 4 speed. But that is because it is a 99 and slightly smaller than the C900.
As far as performance you mentioned Monte SS. I've taken them in the rain when my spg was musch newer. I've even taken mid 80s camero z28's. I've lost to a vette at over 120 mph in a 4 door 900t. I hung with a 300ZX turbo with my spg the day I had the dealer put on my sport exhaust.
V6 can put out a lot of power, look at the Buick GNX, the Audi A6 and RS4. But I fear the saab 2.5 is not it from what my sources have said. It rates with the saab 2.1 NA.
But From what I've heard from the Saab Techs was to stay away from the 2.5. The 3.0 was anouther story. I was told it has potential. As far as Vettes You are talking anouther class. A co-worker and I swapped his 2001 vette and my 88 spg on the road during lunch. He as impressed at what a 4 cyl turbo could do. My 88 spg has over 238,000 mile on it and I can account for all but 270 miles of them.
My co-worker was also impressed at what my wife's Chrysler 8.0 liter V-10, so if you want to talk big iron, lets talk BIG iron.
