Hi Kooch,
Hey your from washington aren't you? I'm just north of you by a couple of hours. Weren't you in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago? Anyway yesterday i played around with timing and such. Some results, i first wanted to find out the relationship between boost and timing. So at idle with 0psi @ 24tdc, 5psi @ 20tdc, 10psi @ 15tdc, 15psi @ 10tdc, 20psi @ 10tdc, 25 psi @ 10tdc and 30psi @ 10 tdc. So basically at 15psi it advances to max retared. Then i reset the retard to 11dbtdc @ 28psi. Went out for a test ride and still it was pinging. Had my head scratchin, then i realized something, i usually run for fuel 94 octane with a shot of octane booster. Which brings total octane upto 104. With the octane booster in i can run easily 30psi and 10dbtdc and no pinging. This my be something you might want to try if you haven't allready. I can't belive the diffrence the octane makes. I forgot to put some in the other day when i filled up, so that is partial the reason it started to ping like crazy. With the octane booster mixed in the fuel any boost past the 15psi @ 10 dbtdc still comes on strong at least untill the turbo hits the nonefficent zone, but that is around 28psi. I know what guys are saying about to much boost and it will blow your trany or meltdown some pistons. I don't agree, these engines are strong, just as long as the engine is in good shape. I have only heard of one guy fring his engine, but in the process he taught a lesson to a new camero, the set back was it was over a long enough distance and time that the engine said screw you, BOOM. sorry if i rambled on there. But i still want to find the sweet spot without the octane booster, so when i do add it all is allright. Sorry for the long reply i thought the info might be of some interest. Thanks agin for your reply.
