Actually there are several car companies working on this. They are not doing it the way you suggest but in strictly, and I mean very strict controlled environment. The advantages are numerous. The main disadvantage is the amount of heat in the burn. Still by using pure gases and specially formulated petrols the desired effect of better fuel mileage and power can be acheived. Atmospheric air contains 4/5ths nitrogen (N2) along with a mixture of hydrogen, oxygen, argon, krypton,etc.... You do not actually think that the manufacturers are only looking at hydrogen engines, along with electrique generators. If it produces power they are working on a model.
