I've never seen any results to support any gains on the inlet pipe. It would be nice to see a flow test done, but as you point out the pipe is the same size at the turbo inlet.
What I have noticed is that oil return line from the breather valve on top of the inlet pipe has two differant type of screws one with a large head another with a smaller head. The smaller head screw is cut to not allow restricting the flow. The larger head screw sits in the inlet pipe about two inches taking up space. I've removed this screw and cut it down. Not sure if it's really doing anything but then again it's not just taking up space.
