The cast aluminum pipe has thick walls and fits into the rubber flex hose from the MAF. It creates a diameter transistion that is abrupt, like the TBTC on the 94-99 NG's and 9-3s. A fabricated tube part will avoid that and will also have smooth walls compared to a casting. The fabricated part can also have a larger opening at the turbo.
The opening to the turbo is small. The transition to that diameter should be smooth and developed over a long length if possible.
