Aero Tim makes a good point. Not having seen actual numbers ( and I am always concerned about airflow through the AMM since most Dyno HP tests are "static" and that almost no one works to move air through at speed.)

I simple test to prove to your self (more of a question of flow dynamics and physics than actual #'s, is to take a straw at full length and blow (or suck depending uponn your preference, I don't ask or tell) then while you are doing the above clip the length off and see what happens to airflow. What happens when the diameter goes to infintiy? (is shortened) If this is the case what you want to do in the tube is to replicate "infinity" as closely as possible by making the tube have as large a diameter as possible prior to delivering the air through a small opening.

With (air)flow, the lenght of resistance is more/as important as/than final outlet diameter. (F/A = h v0/d) The force of friction on the lenght of teh pipe will "bogg down air travelling along the lenght. Bernouli's equation illustrates that air at teh center will flow freeliy adn speed of the air is higher (and pressure lower)

If this doesn't explain it I can go into more derail, but that would make mee seem like a geek. ( with a nasty fast 2000 9-5 BSR Stage III) -Jas
