Chris,
I understood that clipping helps out at top end by letting the gases flow around the spinning wheel at rps when you don't care about spool up. The 18T wheel is oversized for that housing, but the tight quarters probably enable the big-azz wheel to spool up pretty well. A 7cm2 would be a lag dog, so a clipped wheel in a 6cm2 theoretically has the best of both worlds. Not too laggy but still some serious top end...
