Intercoolers and Air in-takes. Saab Ram Air? Long

The more I think about it, the more I want to do something about my current intercooler and air intake set up (stock IC, K&N open air filter). The intercooler is in a bad spot, with little air flow around it to keep it cool. The radiator position does not offer you much leeway, though, for installing a different IC.
The air filter sits right on top of the intercooler, sucking in super hot air. The stock seperator does little there, and I know either SD or SPG9 sells an aluminum divider. Anyone using it?
What intercoolers are you all using? How do you mount them? I have seen a lot of variety out there when it comes to this mod, so I would like to hear how pleased or dissatisfied people are with their mods.
As for the air intake, I saw one website a while back where the guy cut a hole and installed vents into his left fender for air intake. Awesome! I don't want to go that far though, and I think I can run a large intake pipe a-la Pontiac GTO and Trans Am Ram Air set ups, with the intake feeding both the IC and directly to my air filter. Any ideas or experiences? What kind of filter element do I need for a ram air set-up? Can I use my K&N somehow? I was thinking I could try some sort of cowl induction a-la Chevelles (though I am a Pontiac man, not a Chevy man) but how?
I look forward to your responses!
