Tom,

Very interesting. The car's computer has to calculate the miles and
gallons, then divide the two. The miles it can calculate very easily. It is
also the same miles that you use for your calculation. The gallons is the
difficult part. The fuel injection computer has to figure out how much fuel is
injected per squirt and add them up. The fuel meter at the gas pump is
much more accurate. If the fuel injection calculation is off by just a little the
calculated fuel consumption is off.

FWIW, my Dodge reports the fuel consumption as about 0.2 mpg low.

In general the calculated consumption will be different by a fixed
percentage. You can add a percentage to your displayed consumption.
