Thanks Jim.
Yes, the Aero does sit a tad lower, how much over a non-Aero model I do not know, so I think its safe to assume the lower stance is obtained by a shorter spring(??). In regards to the 16" rim, my manual lists recommended tire/engine combinations. Since I have the V6 the manual does in fact list a 215/55 R16 93 Q winter (snow) tire with the V6, which is what I have from my 02 95 Aero SW. My tires are not 93 Q, however, they are 97 T XL. Strange thing is though in the next category under wheel sizes the 6.5 x 16" wheel is lined out for the V6! Jeez. This seems to run contrary to the 215/55 R16 winter tire they list for the V6. At least we know the 235/45/17 stock tire is the same diameter at the 215/55/16 snow tire -- a good thing.
If this spacer option works, I hope I'm not throwing a monkey wrench on this by deviating from the recommended 93 Q winter tire speed and load recommendation. I bought the 97 T XL for my 95 because I towed a small fishing boat and hauled a lot of crap and as such, opted for the increased tire capacity. They worked fine albeit the ride was firmer than the squishy 93 load rate. Funny/weird thing is my 95 manual recommended winter tire was also the 93 Q. I guess Saab just likes that load/speed rating.
I wouldn't even bother with any of this if I could just sell my 95 winter tire package but after nearly 3 weeks on C's List I haven't had any success. So instead of letting this virtually brand new snow tires sit in the garage all winter, I trying to make them work on the 93 and spacers -- at least on the front , is my only option. Doing all 4 wheels will cost me $200 :-(
One last thing, in my 93 manual -- in the tire/wheel section it states a notice that the permitted wheel offset is 41mm, but I think this refers to the 17" wheel.
Cheers, Randy
