Well, that's exactly like the old discs I removed from the car in November. Corrosion is really hard on the rear discs here in the frozen, salty North.
The 9-5 was also prone to premature discs corrosion. I blame that indoor heated parking where Honey works. And the fact that she drives that car essentially downtown, in stop and go street traffic.
At the front of the XWD, I tried Centric ceramic-coated discs and QuietStop pads. As of today, they still look perfect. Even the crosshatch pattern is still visible on the surface. That's what I was expecting from the OEM rear discs too.
I'll have the rear discs surface rectified on a lathe, and with the new softer Jurid pads, i'll have a point of comparison to see if it's the discs, or the pads. Or my own expertise...
BTW Anders, on the FEBI online catalogue, I found that the 16718 (Volvo/Mazda/Ford) pads are asbestos-free, while the 16744 (Saab/Opel) are unspecified... Food for thought...
