99 9-5SE 2.3LPT Auto with 18.5K on it now. My wife drives it in moderate to heavy stop & go (more stop - then go:()traffic. We are now at 20MPG, + or - .5MPG. I'd say the air is on 25% of the time on the way to work, and 75% + of the time on the way home. Traffic is lighter in the AM. We run Cheveron premium, and keep the tires at between 35-37 front and 34-36 rear. We found that at about 5K our city MPG picked up some. We run Mobil 1, started at 3.5K, letting the engine work it's way in some...
Best trip MPG was San Diego to Vegas (high speed run 80-90MPH avg on the open road) - we pulled in 32.6 calculated MPG (sid showed 32.4). We frequently visit our daughter at UCSB in Santa Barbara, and usually pull in between 29-31MPG...
While I'd like to see 22MPG + in city driving, we bought the car mostly for the grin factor/safety/style/etc. - so I'm still very happy with the car!!
(Looking forward to dumping the OEM tires...) Drive the car until over 3500K or so, and get some 100% synth oil, use a good grade and manufacturer of gas - after 5K or so, your city MPG's should pick up some...
Best of luck,
9-5 Smitty
