Wow! I've got less than 3k on each of my 2001 base automatic models -- and I see optimum (29 - 31) doing 55 - 60, and anything above or below declines from there. I'd love to get 30+ mpg at 80 - 85. Is this something to expect after some break-in period? Since I only got the cars in June, I haven't driven much without a/c on and only use 87 octane. And all my data is from watching the sid -- how reliable is that anyway?
As for city driving, how can anyone really compare city mpg outside of the test conditions the manufacturers must use (which I don't know a thing about, by the way -- anyone care to explain how they even come up with their numbers?)I'd think that the length of traffic lights, amount of stop signs, the maximum speed you can reach before getting to another stop sign or red light and various personal and geographical characteristics would create drastic enough differences to make any comparisons with another almost pointless (unless maybe a comparison with someone in the same neighborhood or city). And since I have two identical cars, and since I see the same basic numbers (city and highway) on both - my guess is all those factors are playing a role that maybe goes unnoticed.
