John,
Be sure to think through what things are most important to you regarding "creature comforts". I have owned 3 Audi's in the last 5 years('97 A4 2.8, '98 A6 2.8, '01 A6 2.7 tip) and also bought an Aero (5spd, BBS pkg.) wagon in March which I drive everyday.Wife drives the A6.
The Saab, from a handling and driving performance standpoint is much more fun than the Audi, although I don't have the sport pkg. so the Audi is a little sloppy in the corners.
What I really couldn't believe was how behind the times the Saab's are in features (please no flaming burns, I love my Saab but am realistic about it's short comings at this price point)
1. Nothing unless the key is "on". If you go to load something behind the seat and need to slide the front forward to fit it, you have to get in the front and put the key in, turn ignition on to do so.
2. No one touch on anything except front windows down, and sunroof to open. Try leaving a toll booth in the rain, holding the window switch up to close it, trying to shift from 1st to 2nd, and steering. The back windows don't have one touch at all.
3. If you shut the car off and forget to close anything, guess what, key back in, ignition on.
4. From a safety standpoint, I can't understand how the engineers think it is smart to have to hold everything to get it to fully open or close while you are trying to drive and shift.
5. On a hot day, no way to open windows unless you unlock, get inside(where its hot!) and put that fing key in again to open windows.
6. Remote sometimes won't function if you are more than 5 ft away.
7. Radio, switching from AM to FM1 and FM2, you have to go through the whole group instead of having separate buttons for each.
There is more but you get the picture. Audi is light years ahead of GM on this issue and it nurts an otherwise really nice car.
If these things aren't important to you than I think it is a wise choice because it is a fun car to drive even w/o the AWD.
Ross
