True for many, but if the engineers did not have a huge market for 2Ghz P-4 chips, and could not justify spending the time to develop denser chip manufacturing technology, we would not be getting low cost items like cell phones PDA's, GPS nav systems, and a lot of the sophisticated internal electronics that is in our cars.
I guess that my real point should have been that the Aero does not need Z rated tires. Had sAab choose to go with a slightly lower rating, we would be none the worse for wear,but they do it because Audi and Volvo and BMW do it, so I think it is a market pressure issue, rather than a scientifically driven decision. Again, I would not personally downgrade, and actually,if faced with a tire swap on an Aero today, would ditch the OEM grade Michelins for a premium Dunlop or Bridgestone tire. I would probably be selecting among them for lowest noise level however, since tome that is a day to day issue that takes priority over tread life,ultimate cornering power, or price.
