An Aero for $43k? $US? Then you didn't even try!

If that's the best quote you got you didn't seriously shop for the vehicle. I had quotes for 2001 and 2002 Aero sedans for $35k and below last month before purchasing a 9-5 Arc for even less than that. Where did you learn to negotiate so effectively?
So if in your estimation the interior of a 9-5 should say "made by fisher price", perhaps your new BMW should have a sticker that says "fleeced another sucker".
"More legible instruments"? What's the problem, your Aero tester didn't use an English font?
If you did drive an Aero you would have noticed these advantages over the BMW:
- stronger engine (250hp/258 ft-lbs torque @1900 vs 225hp and 214 @ 3500)
- more interior space
- OnStar
- Better stock seats (ventilated in 01)
- Heated rear seats
- more trunk space, and a split/folding seat standard
- A much better stereo
- A sale price difference of many thousands vs a new BMW 530i
If you price out a 2002 BMW 530i to match features (as best it can) with an Aero, you'd buy a BMW 530i premium/sport/cold/folding seats/lumbar/navigation/premium sound and you'd be at an MSRP of right at $50,000. And you'd still be in a slower car with a smaller interior.
Your real difference at this point is close to $15,000. Hey, if you have the means, go for it. But don't kid yourself or this board regarding features and value. You're way off the mark. And as far as driving satisfaction goes, your preference must be worth the exhorbitant premium.
Do you also pay $150 for $60 bottles of barolo?
