This is a Saab vs. BMW post...lets keep the sights on target.
1. To say the "all" BMW gearboxes have problems is like saying all 2.3LPT smoke.
2. You would still be safer in a BMW than a Golf...it would just cost more to repair. (Non Saab vs. BMW)
3. BMW has yet to master AWD, but the newest generation of iX is step in the right direction. Saab doesn't even offer AWD, and should.
4. Turbos in race cars make sense since the engine is always driven in the "sweet spot" of the RPM/Boost range. Daily driving on streets does not give you this. The result can be turbo lag, boost surge, and general inconsistencies of smooth driving. Normally aspirated I6 motors do not have this problem.
5. This is a non Saab vs. BMW statement. A BMW could out manuever a Saab in all but snow/ice covered roads, specifically the twisted kind. 50/50 weight distribution is one of BMW's first considerations when designing a vehicle.
6. When discussing electronic problems, both BMW and Saab could improve. The SID with its numerous headlight failure warnings and BMW's (un)powered seats have issues. (Saab vs. BMW: Tie)
It is not my intention to dismiss Saabs. I would not have just bought one for my wife if I thought they were crap. Everyone's opinion is different, especially when it comes to cars. Lets just keep this friendly bantor.
