If the alternator is not functioning correctly, your new battery charge level should be lower then normal by now. If the check engine light comes on, the ECU should have a diagnostic/problem code stored. Did the dealer say what the code was ? As for camshaft, I think your dealer is full of it. Ask them what make them come to that conclusion. Better yet, stay away from him.
If you supsects the charging system, do the voltage check on the battery, check all your cable and gound. Make sure the cable and all the connection are in good and clean condition. Beyond that, I suggest you go to the FAQ section and look up a recommended shop in your area.
