My 1988 Turbo Convertible did the same thing when the alternator went bad. I'm pretty sure you have a charging system issue. Take it to soemone else to check the battery and alternator. In my area the NAPA guys are very good at this. Assuming that what the dealer told you hasn't been lost in the translation, his theory about the cam is crazy! Bad cams show up as erratic idling, loss of power, etc. It has nothing to do with lights dimming and the engine shutting off then running fine again after a charge. It amazes me how many people in the automotive profession have no idea what the various bits of the engine do. I had a "mechanic" tell me once that my engine wouldn't start because I had thrown a rod. I said how can that be since it turns over fine, it just doesn't seem to be getting spark. He wanted to charge me a $1000 tear down fee. This was 10 years ago at a "reputable" Saab dealer. The problem was a faulty coil wire.
