Sieglo: I do not disagree with your assessment about Saab's version of fog lights, but my point of all of these posts is that in general, driving with fogs on when it is not foggy is what is wrong, and it is not the type of issue which can be rationalized by saying that one specific brand of car is OK, and that the fault lies only with others. I agree that SUV lights tend to be more of a problem, since they are higher up in general, but that does not excuse conventional passenger cars from complicity in this problem.
I tend to notice in my area that when I am able to get a glimpse of those oncoming cars who always have their fogs on, there are more Pontiacs than any other car that have them on. Could it be that the switch on these cars is so hidden that the drivers do not even know that they can be turned off?
just about every car out there today has a set of these aux lights below the bumper level. they are all supposed to be trying to do the same thing, that is provide close in broad style lighting for foggy conditions where you are going slow in the first place. The issue that I was addressing is,why sould they be on all of the time at night, even on the highway, where at normal speeds, you are basically outdriving their light pattern anyway, and could never react fast enough to something that you see right under your nose. Couple that with the fact that if everyone has them on, we are all having to stare into twice as many lights as would otherwise be on,I am simply suggesting only using them when they are really needed. I really cringe at those who have said that they could care less about how thier lights are percieved by others as long as their car "Looks Cool".
