Hi Kira -- that's the plan for this evening. I poked around as best I could last night w/o removing the engine brace, and will do a bit more tonight with the brace out of the way. I have a new belt, but have been hesitant to install it for fear that it'll just fail doe to oil exposure.
A little background on the purchase: the small dealer we bought it from is one we have dealt with before. He said it had been leaking oil, but that he's had that fixed. I said that made me a little wary of buying the car, and he said he'd "take care of it" if it returned. Poking around last night, I see where there is some RTV on the timing cover. Looks like their "fix" was a little goop here and there, which I don't think will hold up to oil exposure under any circumstances.
I was hoping that the head bolt procedure might fix the leak, and that I could just try new pulleys for the belt problem, but I may need to start considering what I'll do if the car needs the timing cover replaced. To me, if that is the cause of the leak, replacing it is the proper "fix," but one I am sure the dealer will try to avoid, obviously.
What a bummer...
