Yes SAABusa could maybe only sell a total of a 1000
high performance Hirsch versions per year. But you
have to consider the halo effect. Many people will
want such a car, but if they can't afford it they
will buy a regular Aero or Viggen or even SE.
The whole M, AMG concept works this way. Attract buyers
with a superb car, to sell em a regular one that will
benefit from the sporty image of the top of the line
version.
BMW sells more 3 series because they offer a M3 not
because they make it. What they sell more is regular
3 series and a few M3s also add up. Fact is people
think that the regular version is close to the M
car, and because their is an M car the 3series are
better then similar cars.
Lancia was able to sell well its outdated Delta subcompact
until they removed the AWD Delta Integrale from their
lineup. When they did that sales just... went through
the floor. And Lancia was only making a few thousand
Integrale's per year. Now they are strugling as their
cash cow got killed. Their new Delta never caught on
cause it did not have the performance image. Guess what
Lancia which was living of the Delta... no longer makes any.
So... yes it is worth it to import Hirsch versions to
the US market. And you are right that models might be
limited. I guess the 280Hp Auto 9-5 Aero Wagon and the 305
Hp manual Sedan will make it, as well as a special
convertible 9-3.
Regards,
Coolknight
