You don't need the remote for a spare key. You can open the door using the
key if you remove the plastic seal over the lock. If you have the alarm
system it will start, but it will stop when you put the key in the ignition
and the transponder in the key is accepted by the car. You can use the car
with key+transponder+remote (normal), key+transponder (e.g. no battery in
remote), or key+remote (e.g. broken transponder). If what you said earlier
that you can use the car with a key+"some magic button" is true, then that
is a fourth way. I do very much hope that this isn't true for obvious
security reasons.
