Really depends on the condition of the guides..... I had a new chain rolled in over 60,000 miles ago and the car is still running great without recurrence of the previous chain noise. But like Anders said there is a big caveat!
Eventhough SAAB has included the timing chain roll-in procedure in the WIS, the very fisrt step (after removal of the valve cover) is an inspection of the guides. If they are worn excessively (the WIS includes a sketch of OK and Bad guide wear) the roll-in procedure is not to be used.
I got 220,000 miles on my first timing chain, but I also clearly understand that I am drivng a disposable car. If anything major happens, collision or mechanical, the value of the car is less than the cost of the repair.
BTW - The cost of my roll-in by the local Indy was $400.
