I have two borthers-in-law who are professional mechanics. Each has two full sets of tools; one at their day job where they earn their pay-check and benefits, and the other set in theier polebarns at home where they make their "mad money" fixing other people's cars. Vehicles like yours - otherwise in good shape but needing a repair the owner can't financially justify having performed at a Dealership or Licensed Shop.
Your car needs $100 in parts and 30 hours of labor to install them. A moon-lighting licensed professional mechanic may be willing to do the job for a Grand. This would provide them $30/hour for their time, not bad for a side job!
Your trump card is that you can live without the car for the two or three weeks it might take a moon-lighter to complete the work around family obligations and the like. Use this to your advantage! Even if you decide to sell the Saab after it is repaired, the difference in sales price between a good condiiton operating car and a broken car will be much more than $1,000.
Best of luck!
