If you're buying from a Lowes or Home Depot, they have trucks for rent by the hour as a back-up plan.
I got a medium sized fridge in my wagon, still in the box. Moved the kids seats to the passenger seat, then folded the rear seat down. Slid right in with 1/8" to spare. I just had to tie the hatch down.
Bring a measuring tape...
