I have a nominal 10" ratcheting (self-locking) snap ring pliers that I bought at a NAPA on a Sunday afternoon because I needed to do my first O-ring replacement on a weekend. The self-locking feature is great, and it is very well made, but it is just on the edge of being too small for this job. I've used it for this job five times on four cars now, but I will be checking the references you all have provided to supplement that tool for really large snap rings.
Thanks,
Mark in Marine
