Fixed and back on the road for now. We’ve had so much rain and snow this winter that I’ve not had many dry days off. Also, my driveway takes a few days to dry, otherwise my jack goes down more than the car goes up. My issue was the oil pump o-ring. Hard as a rock, and broken. Honestly, at first look I thought I couldn’t find the o-ring because this felt and looked more like a piston ring. Went ahead and did the PCV update, oil pan drop (just a few oil shellac pieces) and valve cover gasket as I had the week off of work.
Oil pump was the biggest pain, none of my snap ring pliers were large enough. A sacrificial pair of needle-nose pliers worked, nice and long for leverage, and a few minutes with a Dremel to get the tips right.
I had my wife bump the starter to loosen the crank bolt. I have no air compressor here, and no electrical impact, so skeptically I tried it to her dismay. It isn’t easy convincing an intelligent woman to bump the ignition for a second while I hold the breaker bar to the crank.
Only other issue I had was the downpipe nuts. I lost one last night, so I placed the other 2 somewhere safe so that I could match them up at the hardware store. Those two disappeared overnight, much too safe of a hiding place. The local auto parts had a 10 pack of exhaust nuts and studs for cheap though, Dorman PN 03411, so it was nice not needing to re-use those. I did find the first missing one later, it was stuck to the package with my new oil pan plug. I had lifted the package, moved it several times looking for the nut, but never flipped it. Errr.
All seems well, no check engine lights, no leaks yet. It’s back on the road after a month, so no more taking the Yukon on the 90 mile round trip to work for a bit.
Thank-you to everyone for the help and hints!!
