First things first, the 87 900T is a great car! I have one but it’s a hard top and I had the same heating problems that you are talking about.

Make sure the fans are kicking on like they need to, the left one always comes on when you turn the A/C comp. on; and the right one comes on when you shut the car off and the temp. is still up. Wire across the fan switch on the top left corner of the rad., this will cause both fans to run anytime you have the key on, I did this and found out the bearings in my right fan were going out but when it was hooked up to the switch it never got hot enough for me to find this.

Wire around the fan relay located on the inside of the left fender under the hood, this relay goes bad and Saab tells people to wire around it because the switch on the rad. takes care of the fans.

Back-flush your rad., just remove the top rad hose and unhook the big hose from the plastic rad. tank, turn your heater control to high heat, stick your water hose in the hose from the plastic tank, clamp it down turn your water hose on and watch it flow from the rad. If it has a good flow your rad. is ok. When you put your antifreeze back in make sure you bleed the air out of the system. If you have a “Hot Oil Smell” check the back of the engine for an oil leak, sounds like it is leaking over onto the exhaust.

If the car is running at this time it’s hard to see why it would need rotors, cal....etc. Find someone that works on cars and let them see what it needs, and as far as parts go find used parts from the companies on this board.

Bottom line is unless to can trade way-up, any car you get will need a lot of work! That is just the SAAB WAY!
