Are you sure that your jack is fully lowered? Sometimes mine doesn't go all the way down unless I open the petcock and push it all the way down.
I never jack my cars at that aluminum crossmember. I don't think it was designed to withstand that kind of stress. I'm not sure that it us a recommended thing to do, but I know others do it.
I jack my cars under the box beam that runs about under the front seat footwells on each side. You can get a jack under it by sliding in just behind each front wheel. Then I put jackstands on the jack points that the OEM car jack slips into.
