The first mechanic killed my first fuel pump by putting the wrong relay in and it ran my fuel pump and battery to its death, but it ate gas before that.
The 2nd fuel pump came from an airplane engineer on this board, so it wasn't a bad fuel pump. The 3rd fuel pump was brand new after market.

I suspect timing and the other issues are causing havoc in the car as well, but probably bad grounding for the poor fuel pump. It seems that saab mechanics have forgotten the art of fixing a 900 after spending years fixing GM Saabs.
