There is not a bypass option that I'm aware of. If you want to just not connect it, and keep filling up per your odometer or other method you can do that in order to keep track of the amount of fuel in your tank.
Since this is your first post under the name you used, my comment would be to purchase the Bentley book for your car and review that rather than relying on comments that seems to be incorrect per the Saab 900 old gen car -- then again, perhaps I misunderstood your question.
Did your fuel sender unit quit or did the fuel pump quit or both??
