I have a legitimate question: I've been surrounded by car culture guys my whole life. American, European, Asian, etc. I work in the automotive field, and have for 45 years. I currently have a '90 SPG. I've added a modified APC box, larger FPR, red top injectors, turbo rebuilt by Eriksson in CT a few years back, and a Jak Stoll chip. At 60 years old, I still drive fast...everywhere I can. Many, if not all my friends tell me I drive too fast. I never compromise safety of others or take ridiculous chances, but I enjoy powerful cars. I try to always be as responsible as a person (that likes to drive fast) can be. On the local interstate around midnight two years ago, I got myself into a "rolling race" with a hot Asian car. At 144 MPH just as I began to pass the other car, I spun a rod bearing on my #1. cylinder, which ended the race. I can say with absolute certainty that on an open, empty highway at midnight, 144mph (as monitored by my onboard GPS) is as fast as I need to be going while racing another car. A racoon crossing the highway or a mechanical failure (other than what happened) could have been a death sentence at that speed. My efforts have been minimalistic in comparison to some. I have no FMIC, no 3" exhaust, no mist, no strengthened trans case, no #8 primaries....yet 145MPH is attainable with what I have done. Just curious how fast you guys need to go in a short wheel based, narrow, basic suspension 30 yr. old car?? I SELDOM run into anyone that drives faster than me. What are you guys trying to achieve, speed-wise?? Just an honest question that has me curious. Bob PS: Don't tell me speed's not the concern and that 400+ HP and rapid acceleration is, because I'll respond with: the 900 transmission will pack it's suitcase and move out.....
