Actually, letting the car sit in the rain may clean the coil. Water by itself is a pretty good insulator. Also, the spray stuff for drying out the coil also will clean it. The water dripping through the crack probably contains impurities that help short out the spark. Alittle silcone spray on the coil and a little silcone in the crack and maybe things will runs smoothly.
