I just bought a '95 9000 CSE. It needs motor mounts replacements badly. I'm surprised at how bad the mounts are yet it idles as smooth as silk. It's a bit clanky when accelerating and when up/down shifting though as expected. I've read some comments about hydraulic versus solid lower mounts. From what I gather, there are several 'jerry rigs' to stiffen or limit travel in the hydraulic mounts. Most of the vibration issues with solid mounts also seem to be confined to automatics and/or just lower mount replacement. Also, I've read that using poly uppers causes the most vibration. It seems the solid mounts allow for better shifting as well.
Now, since this engine runs so well and smooth and it's a 5 speed transmission I'm thinking of using solid mounts. Are there manufacturer differences, meaning one more giving than others [movement wise]? I was thinking if I did them all using solid lowers but OEM use rubber uppers I'd be better off, cost wise and performance wise. I certainly don't want to be rattled to death but it seems to me with the current bad [and I mean really bad] mounts would cause excessive vibration that's non existant.
