1993 9000 cse automatic 240K miles
I overheated the car on the highway and coolant is now leaking into the oil. I'll skip my pathetic defense other than to say I've maintained the car since 85K miles and so I've earned a screwup or so.
I can't get one of the head bolts loose. I rounded the top of one of them thinking I'd loosened it. All of the others have loosened fine.
I bought a hand impact driver from Sears thinking that would do the trick but I'm not having any luck with it. Furthermore, if I tighten another bolt and then use the Sears tool I can't seem to get that to loosen, either. As far as I can tell, you hand-turn this tool in the direction you want the bolt to turn and then hammer it.
I've used my usual tricks of heating the bolt up with a propane torch and then cooling it down with freeze spray and tapping on it without any luck.
I can still put what I think is more torque on this bolt than I did on any of the others in getting them out, so I don't think it is hopeless yet, but I'm close to stripping a head bolt. That would be a sad end to this car.
Any suggestions? Will a real impact driver work better? Is there a better hand one than this Sears tool?
Peter
